Heparin Loading

Heparin Loading - Vascutek Gelatin Sealed Polyester Vascular grafts*

5 Minute Procedure up to 4 Days Heparin Activity

Advantages of Heparin Loading to Vascutek Gelatin
Sealed Polyester Grafts

  • The absorbed Heparin quickly diffuses out of the graft – it has almost disappeared after 4 days1.

  • Heparin loading provides a high local concentration at the surface of the graft giving thromboresistance in the critical post-operative period1.

  • In the event of a heparin reaction it is possible to reverse heparin unlike pre-loaded grafts which do not allow reversal.

* Heparin Loading to Vascutek Gelatin Sealed Polyester Grafts has not been approved by the FDA for use in the USA or by TPD for use in Canada and is subject to local regulatory approval in all other countries

Stage 4

Stage 3

Inject the heparin solution through the Tyvek lid of the blister containing the graft. Taking care not to damage the graft, rock the blister gently to ensure complete coverage of the graft.

Stage 4

After 5 minutes the graft can be removed – excess solution is allowed to drain before the graft is implanted. The graft shall not be allowed to dry out after soaking.

Standard operating room practice should be followed throughout this procedure to ensure the sterility of the graft and of any other item is not compromised.
